Nurse Practitioner:
Kathy McKinney
Becoming a nurse practitioner (NP) involves a significant educational journey that begins with obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), which typically takes four years. After becoming a registered nurse (RN), aspiring NPs gain clinical experience in nursing practice. They then pursue a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, which usually requires an additional two to four years of education, depending on the degree. During this advanced training, NPs specialize in areas such as pediatrics, adult care, or geriatrics, learning to diagnose and treat various health conditions. Finally, graduates must pass a national certification exam to practice as a nurse practitioner, allowing them to provide comprehensive healthcare to patients.
